Planning the Narrative

Today we printed off the lyrics of the song and annotated it verse by verse with our plot ideas and effects. We also worked out how long each verse will last for and so that we know how much footage we need to achieve. We plan to create the storyboard within the next few days and create an animatic to portray our ideas.

Our video is narrative and will consist of a story of two lovers whom have previously been in love and have split due to arguments, however they still love each other and when they see each other their love "kickstarts" again. The genre of our song is synth-pop-dance and we will compliment it by making our video up-beat and visually innovative. The audience can expect to see two people for the narrative/performance walking around town to meet each other. There will also be some effects within this like, rewind and fast forward. They will also see flashbacks to when the couple were happy and in love. Some other effects the audience can expect to see will be edited connotations of love for example, heart balloons, heart sweets and paper chain figures which gradually match cut to the couple.

Suggested Elements

Performance: The boy and girl play a part in the narrative performance. The performance will consist of a couple walking around town to meet each other. They will be interacting with each other throughout the verses of the song.

Costume: Will be casual and appeal to the target audience for examples jeans and a t-shirt. We will also try and bring in the colour red to the costume, for continuity of our love theme.

SFX: We want to use stop motion, fast forward , rewind, colour changes, and many others.

Key Locations: around Manchester- for example urbis, piccadilly and market street . justines house for some of the flashbacks of couple scenes, and the green room.

Some influences we have chosen for our music video are:

Jamie T – Chaka Demus

He is an English rapper like example. He uses rapping and singing in his songs and also the rhythm of the song is similar as the beats are fast in each song. Jamie T uses performance and narrative in songs similar to Example.

The ting tings – Shut up and let me go

We like this video as the editing and effects are very interesting as we like the idea of the shapes of the hands and them leading to a different shot. We thought this would be a good idea to use in our video but use the shape of a heart to link with the lyrics in the song.

Hot chip – ready for the floor

The beat in this song is similar to kickstarts as the beat is quick and also the editing in the video is very quick and this is something we are hoping to replicate as our song we have chosen has a fast beat.

The music video we have chosen to recreate is 'Kickstarts' by Example which has a duration of 3:05 minutes.

The song is a synth-pop-dance genre of music and has a narrative and performance video. The video for the song is about a failing relationship and how you cant bear to be together but cant bear to be apart.

Audience

The audience our video will be suitable for is 15-24 year olds both male and female, however more females due to the lyrics . Males would also find it appealing because of the rapping and the fast beat.
